History of Angus Barrett

Watch our video

Angus Barrett Saddlery was founded by Angus Barrett. Angus has been doing leather work and selling his hand made goods since 1986 when he was just a boy. Throughout school and work Angus was always making something with his hands. After many years working across Australia, on farms and cattle stations, in mines and drilling camps, Angus settled in Orange NSW with the plan to start his own manufacturing business. In 2000, Angus registered his business and started manufacturing his saddlery goods part time. In 2005 Angus purchased his first manufacturing premises and committed fulltime to his craft.

In 2007 Angus undertook his first big research and development trip, travelling to the USA to enhance his saddlery skills and manufacturing techniques and to source modern machinery. Angus studied under two very experienced and talented saddle makers, Randy Severe (Oregon, USA) and Joey Jemison (Texas, USA).

It is Angus' ability to constantly look outside the box and to other industries for new ideas and manufacturing techniques that has helped to bring his designs to life as the next generation in saddlery.

In 2010 Angus Barrett Saddlery opened its flagship store at 83 Glenroi Ave, Orange, and proudly named it "Origo" or "The Beginning".

In 2012 Angus travelled to Europe and the UK on his second extensive research and development trip. Angus visited some of the region's best saddleries and leather manufacturers and spent several months sourcing leather and specialist machinery. Angus Barrett Saddlery is now rolling into an even more advanced and exciting stage of the business and product development. Thanks to Angus' creative vision and determination and hard work by the entire Angus Barrett team, Angus Barrett Saddlery has grown from a small box of tools into an industry-leading business.

Our Philosophy

Angus Barrett's business is based on a concept of raw to retail. We source the highest quality leather from Australia, Europe and the USA. We spend countless hours on product design and improvement, taking into account our own experience and our customers' collective wisdom. We then partner these designs with advanced manufacturing techniques that we have researched and gathered from around the world. The result is a quality, Australian made product that is designed to work and made to last.

Angus Barrett's philosophy is centred on quality and service. Our philosophy is to deal and trade honestly, to create designs that are functional and durable, and to make and sell only the highest quality goods. Our Leather & Hardware

Angus travels the world regularly researching and sourcing the best leather available.

All leather used by Angus Barrett has been carefully tanned using centuries old processes and is specifically chosen by us for its unique application.

The fact remains that a product is only ever as good as its raw materials. For that reason, we place great importance in sourcing and using the very best raw materials.

It goes without saying that our kangaroo leather is grown and tanned in Australia.
