It Started With A Saddle Pad…..

Around ten years ago I ordered saddle pads embroidered with my logo from a local manufacturer. The courier lost them in transit and the manufacturer kindly made new ones, which I received pretty quickly. A friend was working with the manufacturer and mentioned sometime later that the original ones eventually showed up. I never thought anymore about it.

A few months ago, a client told me about a gelding they purchased through a sale. The gelding didn’t work out for them and they were looking to move him on. He was well bred, sounded like he had a good foundation and I could see an opportunity. What a shame he wasn’t a mare!

I put the feelers out for them and one day I received a message, ‘I heard you had details about a gelding that’s for sale’, from Angus Barrett who was in the market for a horse. If you are familiar with this name, then you are familiar with his Australian Made, designed to work, made to last products.

Later that month the horse was dropped to a property near Orange for Angus to trial. I headed in there one day to do some mustering and get some training on cattle. I was keen to see how the gelding was going as I had a gut feeling he was a good horse.

Saddling up, I could see two riders over the hill. I rode down and caught up with them to help bring the cattle into the yards. ‘How’s that horse going? He looks to be going alright’ I remarked. Pausing for a moment I noticed the saddle pad. I chuckled and said ‘Nice saddle pad’ to which Angus replied ‘I found it in the workshop and thought if I rode around with it long enough, I’d find whoever owned it’………….and here we are. The saddle pad was from my lost order returned to the store.

For all of those who believe in coincidence, destiny and how things are meant to be, a saddle pad lost ten years ago turned up introducing people who have common interests, values and passion for their craft in the equine industry. This is the reason I have written this blog today and will continue to do so once a month for Angus Barrett’s web page. It is a means of bringing people and communities to the forefront who share the same passion and work ethic toward their own profession. Join me on my journey as I introduce you to some extraordinary people, products and experiences.
