Keeping with the theme everything happens for a reason, this is the story of a horse called CHANSIT RUNE. He’s big, black, beautiful and was a secret.
Back in 2009 I was after a second horse to campdraft and purchased a mare to suit. Coyote was her name. Coyote was tough, wiry and challenging. A good mare that had won a few ribbons, made finals most weekends and (as they say) was ‘knocking on the door for a win’ but unfortunately her career was cut short due to injury.
A year later the opportunity came up to purchase Coyote’s full sister, a nice type with a soft eye, and kinder going than the mare I was currently drafting. A good prospect for both competition and breeding. I brought Ki Kia and put her into work.
Ki Kia was beautiful to ride one way, resistant to the other and getting worse each ride. There was clearly something not quite right with the mare. The dentist found no real issues with her teeth so I booked my chiropractor to go over her. Neither of us could quite believe our eyes when we noticed she was bagging up. ‘I think we’ve found your problem’ was his comment.
No more than a week later a beautiful, leggy black colt was born. I still remember the first time I laid eyes on him. I sensed in him something special. He had a soft kind nature, yet was confident and a little full of himself.
From a family of champions and an aura about him that is captivating, he deserved a strong name which also reflected how he got here. I chose a masculine name derived from the Old Norse word rún, meaning "secret”. Rune is also associated with mystery and magic, a fitting name for a special stallion.
This introduction to CHANSIT RUNE is a prelude to his inclusion on the Angus Barrett Saddlery website showing some of the feature products.
