The Single Buckle Curb Strap is a light, simple and easily adjustable curb strap.
The primary purpose of a curb strap is to assist in keeping the bit parallel, holding the bit in it's correct position when flexing a horse's head or in situations where the bit may slip through the horse's mouth. In addition, curb straps also enhance and support the lever action of a leverage or curb bit, and they assist in delivering control through the bit, particulary in high pressure situations.
If used with a leverage bit, the curb strap creates a stopping point in the rotation of the bit causing the bars of the bit to be pushed down onto the tongue, amplifying the bit's pressure on the horse's mouth.
The beauty of an adjustable curb strap, is that the tightness to whcih you adjust it will determine the speed, and at which point the pressure will be applied to the horse's mouth.
Curb straps are particularly valuable when working young horses.
All of our curb straps are designed to fit snaffle bits and leverage bits.
Our single buckle curb straps are made from first grade leather that has been specifically tanned for Angus Barrett. This is the same leather that Angus uses to make our bridles and breastplates.
The leather is then edged and slicked to give the leather a smooth edge.
Our single buckle curb straps feature 3 leather keepers. 2 to hold tight on the ring of the bit, and the 3rd to keep the tail end of the strap tucked away neatly.
They are available in either dark natural or natural, with brass or stainless steel buckles.
Before the curb straps leave the workshop, they are hand finished by Angus and his team with a treatment that is designed to specifically enhance and protect that product. We work to ensure that all Angus Barrett Saddlery products are ready for work or show.
The Single Buckle Curb Strap is made from first-grade skirting leather that has been oiled and is ready for use.
With use, if the curb strap becomes dry, we recommend using a surface leather dressing, like the Angus Barrett Leather Dressing, to condition it.
Cleaning
If the curb strap requires cleaning, simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Please note that most leather products will darken with age, use and after dressing.
